Intro to Jiu Jitsu for Women

$333.00

An 8 week introductory course to the art of Jiu Jitsu for women

Learn a skill while simultaneously building an inner strength that is adaptable, dynamic, and playful!

In this course we will go over fundamental positions, movements, escapes, submissions, and the problem solving that make up the sport of jiu jitsu.

Yes, jiu jitsu is a martial art, and there must be a level of focus and concentration while learning this very technical sport. AND it is time to play on the floor, time most adults don’t get nowadays. Not only will you learn to defend yourself and learn sport jiu jitsu, you will also become proficient in movements like rolling, crawling, falling, and jumping. From this practice and 8 week course, a deep movement knowledge and competency can develop and a new way of being can emerge naturally.

I like to think of martial arts as yoga in action. The physical practice of yoga is very individual. Which is great! Many insights, self knowledge, and wisdom can develop from these practices. Martial arts can take the practice of yoga to another step, by integrating it’s teachings in relation to others. Meaning, the lessons you learn from yoga (philosophy, self knowledge, the ways of living) can be practiced in real time in jiu jitsu. Many shadows and lights will show up in real time, practiced in relationship with your training partners. Essentially, jiu jitsu can be a yoga practiced embodied!

About the teacher

Sarah Zmay is a movement teacher and fitness professional who has been training jiu jitsu since 2016. She started training at a modest school in San Jose, CA named GloGlo. Upon moving to San Diego in 2017, she began to train under Jeff Glover and Dean Lister. She is now a purple belt under Dean Lister, and currently trains at Clark Gracie’s Academy. Her intent behind this course is to expand her own knowledge of jiu jitsu by teaching it to beginners, to help students learn more about their bodies, to share introspections she has learned in her own journey, while also bringing in her knowledge of personal training, anatomy, yoga, and somatic awareness to the course!
